The American University in Dubai
organizes the 11th ISSAF Conference
Live Demos on hacking and
bullet-proofing Executive Emails were
presented
Dubai, October 26th 2008.
The
11th Information Systems
Security Assessment Framework (ISSAF)
conference was held on Thursday, the 23rd
of October, at The American
University in Dubai (AUD)
in the presence of the University’s
faculty and student bodies, along with
prominent dignitaries and local and
international company representatives
from within the Information Technology
sector.
Dr. Ghassan Kbar, Associate Professor of
Information Technology at AUD and ISSAF
Security Conference Chair, organized
this year’s security conference with
Open Information Systems Security Group
(OISSG) to demonstrate a real
security hacking scenario. The ISSAF
conference highlighted the critical
issues for hacking email and wireless
network by presenting a live demo on
hacking executive email, hacking a
wireless network, and hacking
competition, as well as identifying
fraud in System Application Product
(SAP) Environment. Those live demos were
presented by key note speakers
Balwant Rathore,
Vice
President of Research at the OISSG
(United Kingdom) and Jagadeesh
Palanivelu, IT Manager at The
Emirates Trading Agency (ETA).
On the indispensability of such
conferences Dr. Kbar commented,
“Personal and business email application
running on wired and wireless network
becomes a prime target for hackers.
Protecting these network applications
against attacks and preserving the
integrity of your information and
business information would require a
proper network security setup. Attending
the security conference organized this
year with the OSSIG at AUD, along with
observing the live demos on how to hack
email and wireless networks, would make
the security awareness program for users
and organization very fruitful.”
It is important to note that the
awareness program first commenced at AUD
in 2006 and has been triggered since
then by a running series of security
conferences and seminars held at the
University on a regular basis.
