Dubai Jet Ski Team Dedicates
Win to
HH Sheikh Khalifa and HH
Sheikh Mohammed
In a win that marks a significant achievement for the UAE in
the international sporting world, Almur Bin Huraiz, the UAE
National Jet Ski Champion was crowned the World Junior Jet
Ski Champion at the World Finals
held in Arizona, US from 4 -12 October.
The Dubai Jet Ski Team dedicated the win to His Highness
Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and
Ruler of Abu Dhabi and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin
Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the
UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Dedicating the award, he thanked
them for the support they have extended to the UAE’s sports
community.
A huge crowd welcomed Almur Bin Huraiz on his arrival at the
Dubai International Airport after the win. The win is
particularly significant as he is the first Arab to win the
Jet Ski World Finals. Another Dubai Jet Ski Team member,
Steven Dauliach, former professional world champion added to
the team’s laurels when he became the runner up in the
senior professional category.
Almur won the junior title scoring 60 points, beating his
closest rivals, second-placed
Quinten
Bossche from Belgium (53 points) and
third-placed Nacho Arwillas from Spain (48 points). Thanking
God Almighty for the victory, Almur said that the win is the
natural result of the intensive training that the team
underwent in the past three months. He added that his
participation in key tournaments during the summer helped
him prepare for the World Finals.
The Dubai Jet Ski Team was supported by the Dubai
International Financial Centre (DIFC), which was the Main
Sponsor and Al Mulla Investment Company, the Associate
Sponsor. The team was led by Huraiz Bin Huraiz.
HE Dr Omar Bin Sulaiman, Governor of DIFC said: “We
congratulate the Dubai Jet Ski Team on this outstanding
victory. This achievement will give a great boost to the
UAE’s global sporting profile. The Dubai International
Financial Centre’s sponsorship and support of the Dubai Jet
Ski Team is part of our commitment to encourage and help
develop young talent in the UAE. We congratulate Almur on
this exceptional achievement and wish him a bright
future.”
Saeed Hareb, Executive Director for Dubai International
Marine Club (DIMC) said: “It is a significant achievement
for marine sports in the UAE. We owe this victory to the
generous encouragement of HH Sheikh Mohammed who has offered
tremendous support for the development of marine sports. His
Highness’ support has enabled several sportspersons to take
part and perform creditably in international sporting
events. His personal interest in promoting sporting
programmes has been instrumental in raising the performance
of UAE sportspersons in international tournaments.”
Hailing Almur’s win, he said: “We always knew he had the
tenacity and persistence that an international champion
requires. In the past, we used to say that he is a world
champion in the making. Now, thanks to God, he is a real
world champion.” The Dubai International Marine Club, he
said, will continue providing the support that will help
Almur to continue his career in sports and win more
tournaments.
Huraiz Almur Bin Huraiz, Manager of the Dubai Jet Ski team,
who is also Almur’s uncle, thanked His Highness Sheikh
Mohammed for his patronage and support. “Words are not
sufficient to describe the generous support that HH Sheikh
Mohammed has extended to marine sports in the country.”
Huraiz further said, “The world championship has always been
our goal and the club and its sportsmen have been working
hard to achieve international recognition for the UAE. We
are delighted that we have surmounted all challenges to
emerge victorious. We offer our sincere appreciation and
gratitude to all our sponsors, the Dubai International
Financial Centre, Al Mulla Investment Company and Al Masoud
Company for their moral, financial and technical support.”
He concluded by saying the win raises the bar for the Dubai
Jet Ski Team. The team, he added, has worked out a long-term
strategic plan for further raising the performance and
enhancing the achievements of the team.
In addition to Almur’s win, Steven Dauliach’s achievement in
coming second in the senior professional category also
raises the profile of the Dubai Jet Ski Team making it one
of the most prominent international jet ski teams. Dauliach
is also Almur’s coach.
