Reem Developers awards Najmat Abu Dhabi
Marina tender to China Harbour Engineering
Company
Reem Developers, for its Najmat Abu Dhabi
project on Reem Island today announced
awarding an AED 201 million contract to a
globally renowned Asian construction major
to develop three marinas and a grand canal
after a diligent scrutiny of 10
pre-qualified competitive bids from local &
international companies.
The contract also forms a significant
component of the overall project
infrastructure development outlay.
Unveiling the details of the contract senior
officials of Reem Developers, the
fully-owned subsidiary of Reem Investments
said the contract for the development of the
three marinas including reclamation and
canal works has been given to China Harbour
Engineering Co. L.L.C, a company which has
proven track record in developing harbours
and marinas in Hong Kong, China, UAE and
other parts of Asia and Africa.
Commenting on the award of the tender, Mr.
Abdulhamid Saeed, Managing Director of Reem
Investments, said: 'The tender for the
development of the three marinas evoked huge
response from global firms, which is a
significant reflection of the interest
generated by the project as well as the
enthusiasm to participate in the dynamic
real estate developments of Abu Dhabi, which
is quickly becoming one of the leading
destinations for real estate investments and
Najmat Abu Dhabi is one of the salient
projects' that is leading this interest.'
Elaborating on the award of the tender, Mr.
Manish Joshi; General Manager, Reem
Developers, said:

round of scrutiny of the bids against global
benchmarks. We were convinced that China
Harbour Engineering Co L.L.C with its global
and regional expertise is the ideal partner
to develop the three marinas and a grand
canal, which are integral to the Najmat Abu
Dhabi development.'
'The three Marinas form the lifeline of the
Najmat Abu Dhabi development which will
offer a superior ambience of island living,
yet closer to the main land. The development
of marinas follow an in depth study on
marine environment as part of our analysis
of the environmental impact of the project'
said Mr. Joshi
'Furthermore, the Najmat Abu Dhabi marine
works have been designed by Halcrow
International in association with Hyder
Consulting. The marine modeling and
hydrodynamic study for Najmat Abu Dhabi,
conducted by Halcrow, is considered as one
of the most successful models of its kind,'
Mr Joshi added.
Spread across 16 million square feet, Najmat,
the Star of Abu Dhabi is an iconic project
located on Reem Island which is 300 metres
off the north-eastern coast of the federal
capital. It has been designed to offer
best-of-the-breed facilities in waterfront
and island living.
The three marinas - Bay Centre Marina with a
250 meter diameter, Residential Marina with
a 200 meter diameter and Resort Marina with
a 180 meter diameter - are strategic to the
aesthetic lay-out of the project.
Furthermore, the implementation strategy for
this project follows the stringent British
Standards for marine works engineering.
The marinas linked by a canal will traverse
the spine of the development from northwest
to south east. Furthermore, together the
marinas and canals will allow future use of
boats and water taxis within the
development. The canal works alone will
involve a construction of 3800 metre long
quay walls. Additionally, the reclamation
for the three marinas will also create three
island parks across 23 hectares and a
separate tender will be floated for
landscaping later.
Founded in 1949 China Harbour Engineering
Company has a track record of successfully
executing several major projects including
the the AED 1 billion (approx) Gwadar Deep
Water Port Project in Pakistan, the AED
586.5 million Phase I of Huagha Port in
China contract, the AED 206 million (approx)
container terminal construction contract at
New Mooring in Chittagong, AED 375.6 million
Port of Balboa Container Terminal
development in Panama contract, the AED 97.5
million Jakarta International Terminal
Expansion Plan Civil Works contract amongst
others.
Commenting on the award of the contract, Mr.

from a technical as well as logistics

In the UAE, the company has executed many
projects including the AED 120 million
(approx) Sqar Port contract, the AED 90
million (approx) Fishing Harbour at Baaya
Saya contract, AED 68 million (approx) Port
Arabia Phase I marine works contract in Ras
Al Khaimah, the AED 43 million (approx)
Dibba Harbour and Beaches Phase I contract
in Sharjah etc. IIBA.
