Carillion Alawi wins Seeb interchange job

Muscat: The RO10.55 million ($27.4 million) Seeb Airport Interchange project has been awarded to Carillion Alawi, a leading civil contracting company, a report said.

The road project, one of several being implemented by Muscat Municipality in the capital area, will help address a major rush-hour bottleneck at the Seeb Airport roundabout, as well as streamline traffic along the key Sultan Qaboos Street, said the Oman Observer report.

Besides interconnecting with the Southern Expressway, the interchange will also facilitate smooth traffic flows in and out of Seeb International Airport, which is targeted for a major expansion over the next few years.

Mobilisation work is currently underway, said David J Skinner, regional manager, Carillion Alawi.

Iran JV wins International City contract

Dubai: Nakheel, a leading developer in Dubai, has awarded GMT Consortium, an Iranian joint venture, the infrastructure contract for International City Phase 3 project in Dubai.

GMT Consortium is a joint venture of General Mechanic Company, Melli Sakhteman Company and Tossar International Construction Company.

The contract is worth Dh250 million ($70 million). The project is situated just across the Manama Road to the south of Nakheel’s International City Phase 1 project which is nearing completion.

The project includes road works, providing for district cooling, power and communications networks, water distribution, sewerage, fire and irrigation.  The work is expected to take 11 months.

Dubai-based Limitless has been employed as development manager for the project.  Bovis Lend Lease is the project manager and Arup is the infrastructure design consultant engineer

Work on $1.7bn Dolphin City to begin by year-end

Abu Dhabi: Construction will start on the $1.7 billion Dolphin City Project in Abu Dhabi by the end of the year, a report said.

The preliminary design of the project has been completed, the Gulf News report quoted architects as saying. The project will be built on an island near Abu Dhabi city.

The project is due for completion within three years, said Sami Mikhail, Middle East director of Peddle Thorp/Morgan Architects.

The project's facilities include a senior citizens' residence, a diving academy, and learning centre, apart from office towers, a 75-storey seven star hotel with an 18-hole golf course, retail and shopping areas, and residential towers. There will also be an indoor diving facility.
