Building boom boosts plaster sand demand

20/08/2006: With construction boom continuing to pick in the country, there has been lately high demand for plaster sand best known as Mesaieed Sand driving some producers to request their clients to reserve their demands in advance.

Qatar Serv Company, one of the only two such firms in Qatar has been urging their clients to reserve the quantities they require in advance, including transportation in advance to give the company enough time to prepare vehicles and equipment.

"The construction industry is booming all over the country and sand is one of the major components that are used for plaster work and also one of the main components of the aggregate used in the preparation of concrete. Every contractor in the construction field counts among our clients", Adel Saada, Business Development Manager of Qatar Serv Company told The Peninsula here yesterday.

Saada said that the demand would remain high for the foreseeable future, adding that from the 42,000 tons of plaster sand that the company has been supplying earlier the volume has swelled to 50,000 tons plus now at an average of QR 1.75 per cubic meter.

"We are trying to do our best to comply with everybody's requirement in the country", Saada said, noting that the request made to clients is aimed at rescheduling the supply and that the raw material which occurs naturally was readily available in huge quantities in the Mesaieed area.

He pointed out that the company has two divisions, one of which is devoted to its equipment and transportation of the product with truck fleet services.

"We are committed to help everybody in complying with their requirements and contracts, because by booking the required quantities in advance, contractors would be able to get their requirements met on time so that everybody can comply with his contract schedule", he added.

Al Qudra inaugurates construction of Danet Abu Dhabi - UAE

UAE's Al Qudra Real Estate announced the inauguration of construction of the underground infrastructure of Danet Abu Dhabi, Khaleej Times reported.

Al Qudra Real Estate has appointed Maunsell Consulting Services to design the whole project's infrastructure utilizing the expertise of EUDO, an Australia- based company, and Emirates Utilities Company Holding (EUCH).

The proposed work is aimed to be ready by April 2007 and the whole project completed by early 2009.
