Muslim BIG fair attracts large crowds on inaugural day


 
KARACHI: The four-day First Muslim Business and International Gala (BIG) at the Karachi Expo Centre, attracted hundreds of attendants on its inaugural day on Saturday.

The mega event was inaugurated by City Nazim Karachi Mustafa Kamal and more than 300 delegates from 25 countries and overseas Pakistanis are participating in it.

Delegates from the US, China, India, Turkey, UAE, Bahrain, South Korea, Singapore, Central Asian Republics, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Maldives, United Kingdom, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan and Sri Lanka are participating in the exhibition.

Talking to the representatives of the electronic and print media after the inaugural ceremony, Mustafa Kamal said that such exemplary and cordial relations between the private sector and the government is never existed before and are leading to a massive boost in all spheres of business activities in the country.

He said that regular holding of such mega events in Karachi, which is regarded as hub of business and industrial lifeline of the country, would help alleviate negative perceptions about the largest city of the country.

The nazim claimed that the federal and provincial governments besides the CDGK, have extended all possible help for holding of the Muslims BIG event and large participation of delegates from across the globe bears testimony to the their integrated combined efforts. At the exhibition, Kuwait has established one of the largest pavilion where more than twelve stalls representing different sectors including Kuwait fund for Arab Economic development, Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kuwait Flour Mills and Bakers Company, National Tannery Company, Kuwait, Kuwait Industrial Gases Company, Kuwait Cotton Products, Kuwait Danish Dairy, Ministry of Information, Kuwait Foreign Investment Bureau.

Talking to Daily Times, the Head Technical Assistant & Grants, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, Raed M. Al-Kandari, said that the organization which was established in 1961 and is regarded as one of the oldest development financial institution, has helped Pakistan in executing and completing 13 mega projects involving $281 million in the field of transport, communication and power sectors.

The projects include Guddu- Karachi Transmission Line, Improvement ofr the Facilities and operations of Pakistan Railways, Rehabilitation and improvement of track on Pakistan Railway, Quetta and Gadani Potable Water Supply, Quetta Natural Gas Pipeline, Fauji Fertilizer, Rural electrification in Balochistan and Transmission Line from Ghazi Brotha Hydro Electric Station Project.

He said currently the organization has extended financial help amounting to $ 33.4 million for completion of Lyari expressway aimed at easing traffic congestion in Karachi.

Ningxia Agriculture Reclamation, one of the largest company of China involved, involved in export of Halal Beef and Mutton products to many Muslim countries across the globe including Jordan, Kuwait, UAE, Malaysia in addition to Hong Kong and Japan, has also established its stall at the exhibition.

The project manager of the company, Che Sheng Cai told the reporter that last year they have exported $ 5 million worth of quality Halal mutton and Beef and the demand is increasing regularly.

He said that the company is keen to establish farms in Pakistan where modern procedure would be pursued for farming of livestock including sheep, goat and cattle, which would help the availability of quality products at affordable rates.
