2006
was a robust year for Korean builders overseas. According to the
Commerce, Industry and Energy Ministry, overseas construction
orders reached a record US$25.4 billion in 2006. That's a
whopping near-61 percent jump over the year before. High
value-added projects, including oil-field development, led the
growth. The Middle East placed the most orders taking up over one-third the total, while orders from Europe grew eightfold and those from the Americas grew fivefold. The forecast for this year is also rosy with orders from abroad expected to reach $27 billion.
