Turkish contractors gaining experience in Libya |

Turkish
contractors operating overseas started their
education the Middle East and have moved on
to perfecting their knowledge in Libya,
Turkish Minister of Foreign Trade Kürşat
Tüzmen said during an official visit to
Libya on Tuesday. Tüzmen was addressing the 20th Turkey-Libya Joint Economic Commission meeting. He recalled that Turkish construction companies have gained a considerable experience in infrastructure and other building projects by working in the region. “At present, there are 59 contractors in Libya. Our adventure in this country started in the 1970s, and later created a sector which proved its capabilities worldwide. They completed middle school in the Middle East, high school in Russia and university in Central Asian nations. They received their master’s in Ireland and are continuing their doctorate in India. Turkish contracting firms have completed nearly $85 billion in work abroad. They receive $15 billion in projects every year on average. Now, with all this accumulated knowledge, we’ve returned to Libya,” said Tüzmen.
Tüzmen pointed out that the economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries would greatly benefit the development of peace and stability. He estimated the trade volume between the two countries would hit $5 billion in two years from a figure of about $2.7 billion currently.
