Aggreko
completes 25MW temperature control project
| |
|
Aggreko
plc, global leader in providing temporary power
generation and temperature control services has
undertaken the Middle East's largest temperature
control project to date, providing a 25.2MW
Chiller/cooling tower package to the EQUATE
Petrochemical Company during a scheduled shutdown
and maintenance at their petrochemical plant in
Kuwait.
Established in 1995, EQUATE produces
polyethylene and ethylene glycol at its
petrochemical plant located in the Shuaiba
Industrial Area of Kuwait.
When a 30 day shutdown for maintenance was
scheduled for EQUATE's Shuaiba plant, a
number of operations such as the Air
Separation Plant (ASP) were required to run.
These operations normally use the existing
sea water system for process cooling. Since
this system would not be running during the
shutdown, EQUATE approached Aggreko to offer
an alternative cooling system, allowing the
Air Separation Plant and other important
operations to continue during the shutdown.
Aggreko supplied a 25.2 MW cooling package
consisting of chillers, cooling towers and
extensive hosing and other ancillaries.
Installed seamlessly into the existing
process cooling system at the plant, the
Aggreko chiller/cooling tower package
provided approximately 20% more cooling
capacity than was actually required,
ensuring sufficiently chilled water no
matter what the weather condition.
To operate the 25.2 MW chiller/cooling tower
package, Aggreko provided a 4 MW / 415V
power generation package as well as
specialised service and maintenance
engineers on site 24 hours a day throughout
the entire shutdown project.
Brian Hodgson, Aggreko Area Manager for the
Northern Gulf speaking on the project's
successful completion said,
We are extremely proud of our dedicated
team in Kuwait, Dubai and around the
Aggreko network who worked tirelessly to
successfully complete our largest
temperature control project in the
Middle East yet."
'The successful completion of this landmark
project reinforces our position as market
leader in this region. Aggreko is one of the
Middle East's only power and temperature
control providers with the capacity, skill
set and relevant industry experience to
carry out a project of this scale and
complexity,' he concluded.
'EQUATE was looking for a complete
temperature control solution and Aggreko was
able to provide us with a package that
allowed for uninterrupted work to continue
at our plant during the duration of the
project,' said Mr Jamal Al Enaizi, Utilities
Production Leader, from EQUATE.
'The shutdown of our Shuaiba petrochemical
plant was quite a challenge given the time
frame and conditions on site. We found
Aggreko to be the only power and temperature
control provider in Kuwait with the
capability and prior experience to
confidently take on a project of this
nature. The company's ability to mobilise
equipment quickly to our site was also a
contributing factor when selecting Aggreko,'
Mr Jamal Al Enaizi said.
