German construction giant comes to Bahrain

MANAMA: German construction giant Gerber Architects plans to set up its Middle East headquarters in Bahrain, it was revealed yesterday.

Company representatives met with Economic Development Board (EDB) officials in line with their role to facilitate investment by international businesses in Bahrain.

The EDB deputy chief executive, Dr Zakaria Ahmed Hejres, received Gerber Architects owner and founder, Professor Phillip Gerber.

Prof. Gerber is visiting Bahrain to conduct talks with businessmen, officials and financial establishments in a bid to establish joint ventures.

He expressed his company's interest in the construction boom in Bahrain and associated investment opportunities in housing projects and expansion of the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) sector.

Dr. Zakaria outlined Bahrain's recent economic growth and the predicted growth for this year and next year, as well as the role of the private and public sectors in this regard.

He praised the government's investment in construction projects and highlighted the benefits and facilities that Bahrain offers for new investors.

Dr. Zakaria said that public and private investment are predicted to increase in the coming years.

The influx of cash flow in view of high oil prices is encouraging investment in Bahrain and the Gulf, he said.

"This would lead to more capital for construction projects in Bahrain," said Dr Zakaria.
