FM Stresses Iran, Zimbabwe Joint Stances

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said that Iran and Zimbabwe share many joint stances on international and regional issues.

Speaking to reporters following a meeting with his Zimbabwean counterpart Simbarashe Mumbengegwi here on Sunday, Mottaki noted the invitation extended by President Ahmadinejad to his Zimbabwean counterpart for paying a visit to Tehran, and added that Robert Mugabe will arrive in Iran at the head of a high-ranking delegation tonight.

He further pointed out that the two sides have covered various issues during their two days of discussions within the two countries' joint economic commission on Saturday and Sunday.

The Iranian top diplomat further expressed satisfaction with his talks with his Zimbabwean counterpart, and said that they have exchanged views about the latest developments in bilateral ties, issues of Africa and the Middle-East.

Stressing the two countries' joint stances with regard to regional and international issues, he reminded both states' membership in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and underscored that the two countries enjoy principal agreements in the area of economic cooperation.

Mottaki further noted Zimbabwe's agricultural and mining potentials and described that country as a proper place for investments.

He also said that Zimbabwe has demanded execution of projects by Iran in such grounds as power plant construction, auto and tractor manufacturing as well as some other projects in industrial and agricultural areas.

Pointing to Zimbabwe's agricultural products, including cotton and tobacco, the Foreign Minister said that the two countries intend to take giant strides through making investments in various areas and implementing different projects and potentials in a bid to serve the interests of both nations.

To end his remarks, Mottaki also said that both Iran and Zimbabwe have underlined mutual support at different international circles and forums.
