WASTEWATER - The Effect Of
Ultrasonic Pre-Treatment In Metal
Removal

The aim of this study is to compare
the effect of the ultrasonic pre
treatment in the removal of heavy
metals from Acid Maine Drainage
(AMD) by Denver flotation cell.
Synthetic AMD and metal solutions
used in initial experiment to
estimate the optimum condition for
the real AMD. Three different
methods, ultrasonic pre treatment
followed by Denver flotation cell,
Denver flotation cell alone and
ultrasonic run simultaneously with
Denver flotation cell were tested
for every sample. Precipitation of
the metal by natrium hydroxide (NaOH)
and optimum frother, ultrasound was
found enhanced the removal of the
metals in the AMD. Optimisation of
ultrasound power will be done in
future study.
