Articles - Bridge Types

What kind of bridge is the best?

Over the past two years we have received many questions from viewers asking us which bridge is "the best" bridge. If there were a simple answer to that question, there would be a lot of bridge engineers out looking for work.

There is no perfect bridge type for all situations.

The engineer has many options to choose from when selecting the type of bridge to use. Which bridge type is eventually selected depends on many factors including the length to be spanned, the loads to be carried, and the cost to make and erect the bridge, just to name just a few. The conditions below the area being crossed also play a large role in the kind of bridge selected.
